Economical strips

I do not understand why glucose strip cost so much. We will go broke just to have him checked daily. So, far I found out Walmart sells economical blood glucose meter and strips. Also, it was rated pretty good. It is close to have of what he is paying right now. But still it is 40 cents per strip. It is very sad to realize among all the good things you have to do to live cost so much. We Will be heading out to Walmart soon to get Relion glucose meter and strips.

Night time workout

I was exhausted from working out with him after dinner. I was too tired to even move.... After workout his blood sugar was down to 70 so it is worth while working out. However, morning blood sugar was still high side. Today it was 139. I think he is getting morning high from hormone surge but he believes he is getting this number from snacking after workout. Blood sugar was 70 after workout so there was nothing wrong with munching good snack. Especially he was munching salad.

I kept hearing about this mock mashed potato made out of cauliflower. I was very curious so I tried it last night. It was pretty good. It tasted like mashed potato you make out of the box.

Stress and blood glucose level

He is under a lot of stress. I know this is totally eating him inside out... It is kind of like you know you need to work out for your diabetes condition but you are under so much stress that you cannot even do something you know it is good for you and normally that would be your favorite thing to do. His diet is in check. So, I know this is all 100 % from his mental stress. Blood sugar this morning was 287. Last night, two hours after dinner his sugar was 181, so form that to 287...I am very concerned. Well, breakfast is very important meal of the day so, I fixed him blueberries and Yogurt with Flax seed mix and coffee with skim milk. He then bike ride for 30 minutes. Two hours after his breakfast was 130! Not bad at all. Our goal is to work out tonight before bed time.

I need to find out more about morning high.

Grocery store secert

If you are close to Chicago or live here in Chicago, check out Pete's Fresh Market. Lately we found out it is getting pretty much impossible to eat healthy by buying grocery from Dominics and Jewel. We would spend whopping $100 and go home with pretty much nothing. Pete's Fresh Market is as large as Dominics and Jewels and prices are very reasonable. Store is very clean and great fruits and vegetable selection. With diabetes, it is very important to eat healthy and this is possible by shopping at Pete's Fresh Market. If you are not in Chicago, check out your local ethnic grocery store. You may find some great deal.

Tyroid Condition

I am starting to think which came first? Did he start with thyroid problem first or diabetes first? I am thinking probably he had undetected thyroid problem long before his diabetes kicked in. This is just my guess because when he follow diet and exercise protocol his body respond well and his sugar is under control. So much respect to human body and especially endocrine system. I am sure if something can turn off particular body function then something can turn on particular body function.

Today he started to take thyroid medication without vitamins. I think this will make a significant difference.

Twitter

Welcome Twitter folks!

Careful with vitamins!

Yesterday was quite rough for us. So, I am doing a lot of research to see I can find some good information. I learned a lot about hypothyroidism and vitamins, etc. I think there are a lot of things Doctors should ask patient when they diagnose diabetes. Diabetes is such a common word and most likely everyone heard it at least once in there life. The only thing is that it is so deep and not many people know what to do when they get diagnosed. Many of them has not only diabetes but also thyroid problem, heat problem, cholesterol problem ....you name it they have it.

If you are on Thyroid medication, it is best you take Synthoroid and vitamins approximately 2-4 hours a part. Iron in the vitamin reduce the efficacy of Synthoroid. My sweetie has been taking them together for almost a year....He is stopping it ASAP. So, take Synthoroid in the morning and take vitamins in the afternoon.

Nutty truth

Sesame seeds are another great thing for diabetes diet. When you toast sesame seeds, that's when nutty flavor comes out and boy it tastes very yummy. It probably takes 1minute or so to toast them then sprinkle toasted sesame seeds to pretty much everything. I heard sesame seeds slows down sugar absorption during meal. We are pretty much hooked on it.

2 hours after dinner... sugar was 119 !

I am sure you guys can relate to this scenario. After a long hectic day at work taking care of everyone except you. Then at the end of the day he encountered car trouble. His car ended up not starting. There were little more to the story but basically by the time he got home his stress level was over the sky. No surprise, stress triggers many different health conditions. This applies to diabetes too. My honey had many classic symptoms from stress in the past. His blood glucose level gets up to 200's with stress in the blink of a second. So, I thought his blood glucose level must be high even he was good with his diet. I hurried him to get himself checked and it was 89. We could not believe it. We were very happy in the middle of so many difficult things. Well, since car did not start, he had to take a train then walked rest of the way to home.

So, here goes good example, after hectic day I am sure many of you may not want to be good with food. You may not even care at this point. Well, we stack with good diet which consist with below.
  • Sauteed Parmesan Chicken
  • Sauteed Zucchini and Portabella Mushroom
  • Pink Beans with Onions
  • Huge Modified Cobb Salad with Homemade Dressing
  • Prickly Cactus Pear
  • 2 Glasses of Red Wine
  • Water

After one hour from eating dinner his sugar was 179. Since it was only one hour from the time he had dinner so, it was not good but O.K. I knew he did not wanna go for a walk but I insisted to go for a walk and we did for 40 minutes. It was already 10:15 pm but it was a nice walk. We walked around a harbor.

So by now, it has been two hours since he had his dinner. He checked his sugar and it was 119! Just perfect. Again this was without insulin nor pills. Then here comes the funny part, he wanted me to test too. I do not like to the poking part but I said yes and guess what folks.....my blood glucose level was 119! We laughed so hard for awhile. I did not eat Prickly Cactus Pear and I had less food than he did but we thought it was so great that we had same blood glucose level.

I am just ecstatic to know his is doing well each day with my remedies. Later I will get into how to buy great food with budget. I have so much stuff I wanna share with y'all. Keep tuning in, I know in my heart that you will have better time living with diabetes. My honey's been a living proof. He only started to follow and listen to me for a week but it is working!

Love to all!

Prickly Pear Cactus

My honey's sugar was 139 this morning. We did not work out so, I will take that number. It is still higher than I would like it to be but this is 150 % better than few days ago.

So, I found out about Prickly Pear Cactus just a few days ago. This fruit has an effect to lower blood glucose level. This was used by native Americans and also still today used widely among Mexicans to lower blood sugar level. I am sure this is used by wide varieties of differnent ethnic region. This may have side effect if it is used with diabetes medication, so make sure to check with your physician if you are to add any types of herbal remedies to your diet.

My honey started out with insulin but when he was doing well, the doctor removed him from insulin treatment. Even his sugar was little over 500 recently, he still had not seen the doctor (I have told him to make an appointment and so far he has promised me that he will make an appointment today...) so he is not on any diabetes medication.

I figured if this fruits has any chance to lower his blood glucose level, why not try this. So, I dragged him to look for Prickly Pear Cactus this past weekend. I did not even know how to eat this fruit so I did few research. It is actually very easy to eat. I found a green one and a red one. I found out both of them are edible. Basically, you need to carefully inspect not to have a cactus spines. The one I bought was very clean. I did not see any spines from cactus. So, I washed then cutted in half. It was very juicy. As I was cutting it, juice was coming out of fruit. Then we used spoon to scoop the inside and gave it a first bite. I prefered red one rather an green one. It tasted like a pomegranate meet with a cosmopolitan. It was very yummy.

According to my reading, rule of thumb is to eat this fruit with meal to get an effect. When he had this without a meal, blood sugar went significantly high then when he had this with dinner, blood sugar went down significantly. You may experience stomach problems. He had a mild one but he is doing fine now. Last night, he only had half of Prickly Pear Cactus, so for tonight, I am prepareing a whole one for him.

I am going to cure diabetes with love and compasion!

My sweaty pie was diagnosed with Diabetes in August 2008. When this happened his sugar level was 800. He was very lucky. He only stayed in hospital for few days and he was able to come home. Long story short, recently his sugar level was little over 500. I was totally freaked out and told his to go seek professional help. Unfortunately he wanted to wait for a week. I was not going to wait for a week for his to get help. So, I decided to try diet and exercise remedies. I changed his diet to low carb diet then add one hour exercises. After few days his sugar level went down to 223. The reading was better but still very high. So, I changed his diet to cleaner low carb diet and also changed a work out routine. He sugar went down to 170. It was getting better but I was not satisfied with the number. I did a lot of research then I add some medicinal fruit to his diet and exercise, his sugar went down to 58. This was done without any medication. I would say it took total of about 5 days to bring his sugar level down. To me this is amazing results. I was thrilled!!!! I was so inspired that I would like to share all of my findings to help other person with diabetes.
